MLSG

Migrant Landbird Study Group

Promoting collaborative research for migratory landbirds across flyways

MLSG is able to offer a limited number of small grants to ornithologists from countries in Africa to enable attendance at PAOC. We are especially keen to enable young and early-career ornithologists to attend, and will prioritize grants accordingly.

To apply, please contact us (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) with some details of your background (student/organization), country of residence, any plans to participate in the conference and an indication of any funding you may already have. The expression of interest deadline is 16th of March 2020. Early-bird conference rates are available until 31 March 2020.

The Pan-African Ornithological Congress (PAOC) is held once every four years and brings together hundreds of professional and dedicated amateur ornithologists. The Fifteenth PAOC (PAOC15) will be held from the 16th to the 20th of November 2020, in Zimbabwe.

The aims and purposes of the congress are to further the study of African birds, to promote the preservation of African birds as an integral part of the African Heritage, and to foster the appreciation of birds and discussion of African birds in relation to man. MLSG will be present at PAOC, and there will be symposia relating to conservation of migrant landbirds.

Over the fifty years since the first congress was held, the PAOC has made a tremendous contribution to research and capacities, especially for early African career scientists and students, resulting in improved knowledge and capacity, and improving conservation prospects for birds that occur in the region.
